International human rights barrister and TV’s ‘Hypothetical’ presenter Geoffrey Robertson KC provides insight into his Australian upbringing, his career at the Old Bailey, and famous legal cases; he provides a narrative through a legal lens; from Sam Kerr’s arrest in London, juror misconduct in Australia, Julian Assange’s extradition battle, the ongoing discussion surrounding Australia Day, and today’s global issues.

A statement concerning ticket prices
The team at Lateral Events is working tirelessly to keep the ticket prices for our theatre and arena shows affordable, especially given the current cost of living pressures. In the meantime, in 2024, supplier costs have increased between 30% and 40% compared to last year, across the board. These costs include venues, ticket fees, production, travel, security, hotels, trucking, insurance and, well, absolutely everything.
As a result, you will see some ticket price increases this year to help bridge the gap. However, Lateral will continue to provide the highest quality intellectual entertainment experiences with globally renowned experts – we will not cut corners in delivering beautiful and informative shows.
- How long is the show?
The shows will start at 7:30pm and will run for approximately 2 hours, plus there will be a 20min interval.
- How much are tickets?
We are required to quote ticket prices that include the multiple fees and charges added by venues and ticketing agencies; these vary city to city. To find the exact ticket prices, please go to the ticket agency website (linked above). The ticket prices, with some exceptions, range from $95 to $175 (inc fees).
About Geoffrey Robertson KC
Geoffrey Robertson AO KC is a barrister, author and one-time host of “Geoffrey Robertson’s Hypotheticals” on the ABC. He is the founder and head of Doughty Street Chambers, now the largest human rights practice in Europe, where he has mentored Amal Clooney, Jen Robinson, Keir Starmer and others.
His latest book ‘The Trial of Vladimir Putin’ will be published in 2024.
Robertson was born and bred in Sydney. A Rhodes scholarship took him to England, where he is now based, and he holds dual citizenship. He is a Master of the Middle Temple and a visiting professor at the New College of Humanities. His autobiography, “Rather His Own Man – In Courts with Tyrants, Tarts and Troublemakers,” was published by Penguin/Random House in 2018.
Geoffrey Robertson’s career has been marked by courage, determination and fierce independence, from his outspoken leadership of students in the 60s to his work fighting for the lives of death row inmates. He was involved in the prosecution of General Pinochet and Hastings Banda and the defence of Salman Rushdie, Mike Tyson, Julian Assange and Lula, the President of Brazil. Among many other things, he secured Yulia Tymoshenko’s release from prison in Ukraine, exposed the Medellin Cartel’s gunrunning in the Caribbean, and helped restore democracy in Fiji. He is credited with changing how we think about human rights, notably through his book “Crimes Against Humanity”.
